“Are you sure you really don’t mind if I go to Mirkwood with Thranduil?” Glorfindel asked Elrond. The seneschal looked at Elrond, with a little frown on his face. “I have sworn to protect you and Imladris, and I have no intentions to break my wow.”

“I don’t mind, but you must promise to come back before winter. Elrohir and Elladan are also going to Lórien for the winter and I need you back when they are leaving. Can you make the trip in time?” Elrond said.

“I’m sure I will. And it is possible that we will all come back together. If Thranduil’s courier will make his quest in time, Legolas would be able to make the necessary preparations for the trip before our arrival.”

“I hope we see you all back in Imladris in time. If you are going to celebrate your bonding here, it would be joyous event to all of us.” Elrond smiled.

“I hope that too.” Glorfindel said. He didn’t tell Elrond yet, why he was so eager to come home before wintertime. The truth was that Thranduil had promised that if they were able to spend their winter in Imladris, their bonding ceremony would take place on the Yule evening. He anxiously waited the moment he would bind with his meleth.

“Are you ready to leave, meleth?” Thranduil asked, smiling at Glorfindel.

“I am. I look forward to see your home. “

Thranduil frowned.

“I love Mirkwood, but I must admit that we need this alliance with Imladris more than you know. There have been some incidents lately that make me worry. I’m quite sure that the shadow will grow stronger in the future.”

“Maybe, but you are not alone anymore. The negotiations with Elrond were successful, and now you have me beside you. I will give you everything I can; my love and eternal devotion.”

“This feels like a dream. I never imagined that this journey would turn out something like this. I’m so happy with you, meleth.” Thranduil whispered, kissing his lover.

It took for them a quite while before they managed to get to the courtyard where their escort waited.

Elrond and Erestor slowly walked in the garden that still blossomed beautifully, despite the fact that the summer was almost over. The morning was beautiful and Elrond had insisted they spend some time in fresh air, instead of working. Erestor had enjoyed their stroll, even if he had focused more on his hervenn than the beautiful nature around him. That’s why Elrond’s abrupt stop surprised him. Erestor was about to ask what was amiss, but then he saw a stranger coming.

Erestor was delighted at seeing that the newcomer wore Mirkwood colors. The elf might have some news about Glorfindel and Thranduil. The courier bowed respectfully and gave a letter to Elrond. The Lord thanked and dismissed him, then opened the letter. A little frown disappeared from Elrond’s face when he had finished. Erestor anxiously waited for the news.

“So, they managed to settle everything, and both are coming back for winter.” Elrond finally said to him, smiling relieved.

Erestor smiled and leaned to kiss Elrond’s brow.

“I’m glad to hear that. I must admit that I was a little worried. Elladan and Elrohir are doing well with Glorfindel’s duties but it is still good to have him back.” He admitted.

“You miss him, aye?”

“I do. He is the last thing I have left from my family.” Erestor sighed, still a little uncertain how Elrond would take his affection for Glorfindel. That had caused many problems between them before, after all.

Elrond noticed Erestor’s slight frown and hurried to assure him. Erestor’s trust in him had grown, but he still sometimes seemed insecure.

“Don’t fret meleth. I understand your affection for Glorfindel, and you don’t have to hide it from me.” He said softly, holding Erestor close. To his relief, Erestor relaxed and leaned into his embrace. Elrond smoothed his raven hair gently, just enjoying their closeness.

Erestor felt warm and happy in Elrond’s arms. He would never tire of this, being close with the one he loved more that he could ever express aloud. Mere words seemed far too deficient to tell about his feelings. Instead of trying speak, Erestor cupped Elrond’s face and looked into his beautiful grey eyes that were so full of warmth and love. After the moment that seemed an eternity, Erestor finally pulled Elrond into a loving kiss.

Elladan poked his brother as he saw the happy couple engaged in deep kiss.

“Don’t you think we did well, gwanur (brother)? They look so happy together.” He said and pointed out to the garden where Elrond and Erestor were.

“You are right. Look at Erestor. He just radiates love and warmth to ada.”

“ Ada is very lucky to have his heart. I’m so glad that he finally noticed what a treasure he had right front of his nose.”

“And Glorfindel too is lucky to have King Thranduil. I have never seen anyone so alluring. I could have throttled Glorfindel after treating Thranduil like he did. But luckily he came to his senses.”

The silence fell between them.

“Have you never thought of him after that night?” Elrohir finally asked.

“Thranduil? I must admit that I have. There is something in him… for a moment I even thought that he was our soul mate, meant to be with us. Obviously I was wrong, but still I wonder where in Arda that thought came from anyway? I usually can rely on my instincts.” Elladan said slowly.

“I don’t know. But my feelings were very similar. Sometimes I think what would have happened if he had taken what we offered.” Elrohir admitted.

“It is fruitless to think what could have been. We will never find out. He is very happy with Glorfindel and it is best if we forget that ever happened.”

Sighing, the twins turned and left for their duties.

Once again, Elrond and almost all of Imladris stood in the courtyard. Elladan and Elrohir stood behind Elrond, Glorfindel’s usual place. They anxiously waited the escort from Mirkwood. This time there would be many more people in it, including the Crown-Prince Legolas.

They didn’t need to wait long before they saw riders coming on the horizon. When they came closer, the twins saw three blond elves riding in front of the escort. In the middle was Glorfindel, for his golden hair was easily recognized. Both elves beside him also had blond hair, not golden but rather like a silvery stream, that cascaded on their shoulders and back.

Twins grinned. The Crown- prince obviously had taken after his ada. How much they would see within minutes. If Legolas had at least half of his ada’s attractiveness, it would be nice to get to know him.

When the escort finally made their way to the courtyard, Glorfindel and Thranduil dismounted and came to greet them.

“It is so good to see you both well.” Elrond smiled at them warmly.

“Everything went so smoothly that I almost think that there is a Valar’s blessing upon us.” Thranduil said.

“Maybe there is, but definitely there is someone else who we can thank for that.” Glorfindel laughed, and turned to the young elf that had come behind them.

Thranduil took the hint and beckoned his son to step further.

“May I introduce you my son, Prince Legolas. As Glorfindel said, without Legolas’ organizing we would have never managed to get here so soon.” He said, smiling fondly.

The twins didn’t hear Thranduil’s words or Elrond’s response. They were completely drowned in the Prince’s beauty, for he didn’t possess half of his ada’s attractiveness. Instead, he was the most stunning creature they had ever seen.
