Erestor had to leave the chamber he shared with his husband of many centuries. He could never watch Glorfindel pack for patrol because it always made him think about how much he would miss him. Glorfindel watched him leave, knowing where to find him when it was time to go. He would miss his dark mate; it was going to be a long six months.

Erestor sat on the garden soft grass in his favorite garden. He had made friends with a rabbit couple a month ago and whenever he came here they hopped to meet him. Today was a surprise as the couple met him with six little ones hopping along with them. The female was white and brown with a few grey spots on her ears, and the male was solid black. The kits were a mixture of these colors. There was one male kit that was larger than the others and his coloring was just like the mothers.

“Oh, how wonderful! You have a family now.” Erestor smiled and chuckled as the rabbits hopped around him and allowed him to pick them up. Erestor nuzzled the bunnies and petted the momma and daddy rabbit who seemed to be happy someone else was watching their little ones. They munched on the fresh grass several feet away from Erestor who was completely enthralled with the little ones.

This is how Glorfindel found him, surrounded by rabbits. “I am leaving now, meleth,” Glorfindel knelt down near Erestor.

“Oh look, Fin. Are they not the sweetest things?” Erestor handed him one of the bunnies.

“They are very cute, Erestor. I will miss you.”

“I will miss you too. Please write to let me know you arrived safely, and give my regards to Celeborn and Galadriel. I love you, Glorfindel.” Erestor carefully stood and kissed his mate good bye.

“I love you more, Erestor,” he said, and as Glorfindel came to the edge of the garden he turned back. “Erestor, no rabbits in our room.” Erestor nodded, and he blew him a kiss good bye.

Later that night as Erestor prepared for bed, his thoughts were on his mate. Lightening streaked across the sky and thunder rumbled. He stepped out on the balcony, looking down into the garden and thought of the rabbit family. When thunder crashed louder, he grabbed a basket and went in search of the little rabbit family.

Erestor was damp all over when he returned to his room with a basket full of eight bunnies. He emptied a old box used for storage, lined it with an old blanket and placed the family inside who seemed to be very happy to be out of the weather. Placing a shallow bowl of water inside, Erestor went to bed happy in the knowledge he was saving the family from freezing in the rain. As Erestor curled in the warm bed, his thoughts turned to his husband out in the inclement weather. He felt just a little guilty about having the bunnies in their room, but he would return them before Fin returned.

Elrond cuddled the bunnies and told Erestor the babies were about two months old already. Instead of returning them back to the garden, Erestor had a hutch built for them and they stayed in his room. He fed and cleaned the cage, and would play with them every afternoon. One morning Erestor woke to squeaking sounds and found that the momma rabbit had given birth to eight more babies. Instead of being worried with the additions to his family, Erestor was bouncing and happy.

Life continued for another month, Erestor caring for the little family and feeling very happy to have something and someone to care about while Glorfindel was away. As Erestor returned to his room early one hot afternoon, after having stopped by the kitchen for some fresh lettuce and carrots, he was shocked to find that one of the original female kits had given birth to seven kits and the following day another female gave birth to ten little ones.

Now Erestor was becoming concerned that the family was quickly out growing their hutch. He asked for another hutch to be built and set out to find Elrond. The Lord of Imladris laughed and shook his head. “Erestor you must separate the males and female or we will be overrun with bunnies. They reproduce often and do not care that they are related.”

“Oh, I had not thought of that. As soon as the other hutch is ready I will do that,” he assured Elrond and returned to his rooms.

Elrond grinned as he watched Erestor leave. There was never a more pure heart than Erestor. He cared so much for all living creatures, great and small…or furry.

“There I think that is all,” Erestor stepped back and looked at the two rabbit hutches filled with bunnies of all sizes and colors. The female hutch was a little fuller and the new kits needed a couple more weeks before the male kits could be separated from their mothers.

Glorfindel was to return in a few days and Erestor was trying to find others that would take the bunnies and having no luck. Everyone had heard of the advisors predicament and found it humorous, but not enough to help.

Erestor was frantic, knowing Glorfindel was going to be so angry with him for bringing the bunnies into their room. He really had intended to return them after the initial storm, but just could not let them go. His mate was due home in only an hour. The bells had tolled of their arrival at the inner border. Erestor looked at the rabbit hutches and sighed, knowing he would just have to face his husband’s wrath. He would apologize profusely, and then make love to Glorfindel all night, doing that trick with his tongue that Glorfindel loved so much hoping that would diffuse his anger some.

Erestor heard the approach of the horses and then looked at the female hutch. “Noooooo!” He screamed. There were more bunnies inside than when he last checked. Several of the females had had litters and now there were doubled the amount of rabbits. He opened the hutch. “How is this possible? I separated you and it has been…” Erestor glared at the rabbit in the corner. “You ruffian, you cad, you….you…how did you get in there?” Erestor growled at the brown and white male rabbit in the corner, nonchalantly licking his paw and cleaning his ears. Erestor put his hands on his hips. “I see you have been enjoying yourself. Now what am I going to do?”

While Erestor’s attention was on the male rabbit in the female hutch, he did not notice many of the rabbits escaping the hutch and now hopping all over the room. “No, no, no…get back in there,” he tried in vain to put the females back in the hutch. He grabbed the male and opened the male hutch and the rabbits started hopping out. “Oh no!” Erestor sank to the ground.

Glorfindel opened the door to his room and stopped dead in his tracks, quickly he closed the door. Rabbits were everywhere, hopping around and attempting to eat the flowers around the room. “ERESTOR!” he shouted. Looking around the room, his eyes fell on his beloved husband sitting on the floor, his robes completely covered in bunnies, looking completely helpless while he tried to put the bunnies back in their cages.

Erestor nervously looked up at his mate. “I am so sorry, Fin, truly. I thought I could just keep them during the storm, but then I did not want to let them go; I had become attached. But, then they started mating and…” Erestor looked around at all the furry creatures. “Did you know that they do not care if they are related? I mean it has been mothers and sons, sisters and brothers, fathers and daughters. They just don’t care.”

Glorfindel snorted and looked at his feet where a little black bunny was perched on his boot, looking up at him, twitching his nose and ears. The warrior picked it up and nuzzled it. Seeing the scene before him, all the rabbits and poor Erestor helplessly overrun with furry hopping bunnies, Glorfindel could not help but laugh. He laughed hard and loud. Erestor was astonished at his husband’s reaction. He was laughing…laughing. As Glorfindel walked to his mate, Erestor began to see the amusement of the situation. It really was a sight. Their room was littered with litters of bunnies.

Glorfindel carefully sat on the floor next to his husband and hugged him, kissing him sweetly on the lips. “Have you learned your lesson, meleth?”

“Yes, I have, my love. You were right and I should have listened to you.” Erestor blushed.

Glorfindel gawked and looked around the room. “Damn! You just admitted I was right and there is no one but these damn bunnies to hear it.”

Erestor chuckled. “If you wish it, I will gladly shout it from the roof of the house.”

“Oh, Erestor, my beloved, only you could get yourself in a situation like this.” They laughed as they attempted to gather the rabbit into the correct hutches.

Later that night, after three rounds of lovemaking, Glorfindel was thrusting into his husband once again. They both came with a long moan, too tired for anything more. As they lay together trying to catch their breath, Glorfindel snickered. “Erestor, you are insatiable tonight. I believe being around these horny little creatures has certainly had an effect on you.”

“Hmmm…does that mean we can keep them?” Erestor said and then yelped as the pillow smacked his face.
