Press against me,
Pull me in,
I've missed you more than words can say.

I feel the touch of your lips on mine,
The heat of your breath on my cheek,
I have waited for so long,
And now we are together again.

You feel so soft underneath my rough hands
And I still feel so unworthy of you.
But the look in your eyes,
And the tone of your voice,
And I can tell that I am very wrong.

You fight by my side,
So fierce, yet so unerringly smooth.
The skill of your years is shown every time,
With the snapped release of your bow.

But then destiny comes,
It pounds on my door,
I turn my head once,
But once is enough,
As I see the blade slicing into your head.

I would run to your side,
Pull you close into me,
And be with you as you died,
But I know you would chide me
If I left my post now.
For a warrior never leaves his men.

I cannot be with you,
Cannot say goodbye,
Cannot say ‘I love you'
Cannot even shed a single tear.

I had no choice but to leave,
I never got to say goodbye,
Now I am here,
Ruler of my realm,
But with an empty space in my heart.

I remember all those times,
The occasions that we shared,
And the way you could make my heart race with a glance.
Every night as I close my eyes,
You are the one I feel in my arms, not my wife.

I long to touch you once again,
Yet I know I cannot.
I know that even after my own years have ended,
I will still not be appeased.

Whilst I feel the years brittle my bones,
Feel my age press on my heart,
I know my time is not here yet,
I feel so close to finding you again,
Yet I know I am still forever away.
