Author's Notes: The pic of a mohawked Orli on Bast's site inspired this ficlet. I decided to try writing in a different style for this one. Hope it flies. BTW, if you want a gander at the pic, it's at http://www.planetx.org/~changeling/mohawk.html.
Dedication: To Jassy, for all of the wonderful imagery she would spin in her fics. This ficlet is my attempt to craft something in your style, as a thanks for all of the wonderful stuff you've written. :)
Summary: Memories haunt Orlando.

"That's it...and hold it...good!"
Orli sighed as the camera clicked. He was about to leave for Morocco, for another role that was the next stepping stone on his way to fame. But even the thought of working with Ridley Scott couldn't fill the void in his heart. He looked down, gazing at the shadows resting innocuously on his shirt. They reminded him of the dark emptiness that he felt inside, the void that had been created when he and Viggo had said their goodbyes.
The fading afternoon light caressed Orlando's face, and he looked off into the distance, wistfully regarding the orange-tinted world created by his sunglasses. Orange. It reminded him of the times he watched the sunset with Viggo, snuggled together on the deck of his beach house while variegated slashes of rose and purple delicately traced intersecting paths against the orange sky.
When the last bits of light had all but faded, Viggo would press a tender kiss to Orlando's neck, nuzzling the sensitive skin. Kisses would lead to touches that painted stripes of fire across his body, burning and urgent in sharp counterpoint to the waning rays of the sun.
The recollection manifested itself tactilely, and Orlando felt the ghost of a caress dancing across his bare chest; he closed his eyes, imagining that Viggo was teasing him with sure hands and that raspy bedroom voice.
Orlando sank deeper into the fantasy, recalling how Viggo would map every centimeter of his skin, whispering dark, lurid promises into his ear. Viggo's sultry words always annihilated Orlando from the inside, destroying his control until he was shamelessly begging Viggo to take him.
Viggo was more than happy to oblige, drawing out Orlando's pleasure until he felt like his very soul was unraveling. Orange would fade to black as they both surged to completion, crying out their mutual pleasure to the open sky.
"Perfect!" Bast said, snapping another photo.
Orlando came back to himself at that moment, cheeks flushing because he had been caught in the midst of an erotic reverie. He gazed out again at the dimming orange light and toyed with the charm around his neck. It was one of the many trinkets he possessed -- captured memories that he wore with him, cherishing them and never wanting to let them go.
Memories of laughter and joy, remembrances of late nights working hard and lazy mornings spent together; places in the middle of nowhere that they had explored together on impulse...he had gathered them all, and kept them close to his heart.
And yet...he let his most precious trove of memories go with a lingering hug and a kiss. But it had to be that way. Time, distance, and careers would drive a rift between them, shattering what they had built up so carefully during their time together. Practicality dictated that it was best to make a clean break, to carry fond memories of their time together instead of festering wounds from a relationship gone sour.
Orlando never was a practical person.
His mobile was in his pocket. And as the sky faded into multi-coloured shades of orange, he vowed to ring up a certain number in Los Angeles and banish the shadows forever.
