It was a small gathering in Elrond’s private garden. The circle of oak and rowan made it seem even more secluded. Glorfindel stood with his lord in the center, dressed in his finest formal clothing. The sapphire doublet and black leather breeches enhanced his strong physique and the cloth bore the emblem of both his house and his current land.
This was who he was, Glorfindel, Lord of the House of the Golden Flower, Captain of the Hidden City and Seneschal of Imladris. He would honor both lives this night.
He was also pacing, his nervous energy refusing to be contained. Everything had to go perfectly. He would accept nothing less. Although, he did not know what he would do if something happened.
“Glorfindel, please,” Elrond chuckled as he caught the Balrog Slayer as he walked passed. “Everything will be fine.”
“What is taking them so long?” the seneschal demanded. “Surely it cannot take this long to dress one elf?”
“Do you remember when I wed Celebrian?” Elrond asked.
“It lasted for hours,” Glorfindel grumbled.
“It only seemed that way to you,” the lord said. “But believe me when I say that Legolas is as nervous as you are and he wishes to look just so for you. Be patient, meldir (m. friend). They will be here soon.”
Celeborn, Galadriel and Haldir entered the grove, smiles upon their faces. The Lady of Light walked up to Glorfindel. Placing her hands on his shoulders, she pulled him down to place a kiss upon his forehead. Lord Celeborn grasped him in a warrior’s greeting, as did Haldir.
“So when is it you three will be returning to Lothlorien?” Glorfindel laughed. “The twins are complaining of the noise.”
“Indeed, they are not the quietest of ellyn (m. pl. elf) either,” Galadriel chuckled.
“That is not a thought nor an image I need in my head,” Elrond mumbled.
Soft music began to waft through the garden. Lindir’s voice, raised in song, drifted on the breeze and lent an ethereal quality to the night. Glorfindel jumped and then took his spot in next to Elrond and in front of Lady Galadriel. The Lady of the Golden Wood would be presiding.
He turned towards the archway. Elladan and Elrohir came first, matching smiles on their faces. Their robes were impeccable and Glorfindel knew he had Erestor to thank for that. The twins hated formal robes as much as he did.
They parted as they reached the end of the aisle, each stepping to the side as if they were sentinels at a door. Next came Erestor, resplendent in a deep burgundy robe. Though everyone present gasped at his beauty, he had eyes only for Elrond.
King Thranduil of Mirkwood stood in the archway, his bearing regal and powerful. On his arm was his husband, Celebrant. They made a striking couple. They walked up the aisle and took their places. The king eyed the seneschal of Imladris.
*“Know this,”* Thranduil whispered in Glorfindel’s mind. *“If ever you hurt him, you will face the full force of my wrath.”*
*”I would rather die a second time than see a hint of pain upon his face.”* Glorfindel assured him.
*“Good answer,”* Thranduil nodded.
Glorfindel turned once more to the archway, impatience making him almost unable to stand still. He did not have to wait long. There, surrounded by the beauty of the garden, his skin practically glowing in the moonlight was Legolas.
He was a vision. A simple silver circlet rested upon his brow. His pale gold hair was left unbound save for two braids, one on either side of his face. Each braid held two emerald beads. His outer robe was a deep forest green with a silver vine pattern along the collar and down the front opening. The shirt beneath was silver and tied at his wrists. Matching green leggings defined his strong thighs and long legs. A small smile graced his beautiful face.
Glorfindel could not breathe. This incredible ellon (m. elf) was his, all his. He was loved and cherished by the ethereal creature who seemed more of the Valar than the First born. How in the world had he come to be so blessed?
Legolas walked up the aisle, displaying none of the nervous butterflies that flittered through his belly. His eyes never strayed from his beloved and that gave him strength. Stepping up next to Glorfindel, he smiled at the wonder in the golden elf’s eyes.
The ceremony did not take long at all. In fact, it seemed a blur to Glorfindel and Legolas. The kiss he had given his new hervenn (husband) had been full of the passion coursing through his body. In fact, it had taken a hardly discreet cough from King Thranduil to get them to come up for air. He had said something about things a father should never see. The emerald beads now at the ends of his braids were warm against his chest. The exchange was a Greenwood tradition.
The celebration had been well underway when the former Captain of Gondolin had had enough. He rose from his seat at the head table and walked onto the dance floor. His hervenn was currently dancing with one of the twins. Glorfindel did not particularly care which.
Without preamble, he scooped Legolas up and over his shoulder. The crowd roared with laughter and many suggestions were called out to the happy couple.
“Hannon le (Thank you) for sharing this special day with us,” Glorfindel said as he held his love with ease. “However, we must bid you farewell at this time. Please, stay and continue to eat, drink and be merry. Do not stop on our account.”
“This is most embarrassing, hervenn,” Legolas whispered for his ears alone.
“Would you rather I take you here in front of your father?” the Balrog Slayer asked.
“Not particularly, no,” Legolas blushed.
“Then be quiet,” Glorfindel chuckled as he walked out of the Hall of Fire.
He maneuvered through the house with the greatest of ease until they reached the chambers set aside for this night. No one would disturb them save to bring them trays of food and drink. Once inside, Glorfindel kicked the doors closed and carried his love straight into the bedchambers. There, he stripped them both and commenced claiming the Greenleaf.
