They entered the outer office of Elrond's and said to Erestor, "We wish to see Adar. He is expecting us."
Erestor told them to go in.
They entered the Lord's office. "Adar, we need to speak to you. I have made a decision." He looked at Legolas and said, "I guess we have made one. We wish to train with the soldiers on the field. Glorfindel and Haldir have both said it would be alright. But they want us to do it after one week. Does this suit you?"
"Estel, that's fine. But I have come to a resolution of your training. After you have trained and I get a great report from Glorfindel, then I will send you out into the wild. There you will earn the respect of the people of Middle Earth but you will not be going alone. You both will be accompanied by some of the Dúnedain of the North. These are the people who were once Númenoreans. They are a part of you, Estel. Their leader, Halbarad, will be here in one month's time. I also want you to change your name. When outside of Imladris you will be known as Thorongil."
"Why the name change, Adar?" Estel asked. He looked at Legolas. // Is he serious?//
"The reason is so that you are safe from your enemies. If they ever found out you were Isildur's heir, some people might want you killed. Right now, we have just found out that Sauron, the Dark Lord, is gathering his power and is rebuilding the tower of Barad-dur. That means there will be a second darkness taking over these lands. We must stop him." Elrond walked around his desk and leaned against the front of it. He crossed his arms in front of himself and looked at Estel. "Estel, we need to have you on that throne! I have a feeling Turgon, Steward of Gondor, will give aid if you need it. Make friends with Ecthelion. That is Turgon's son. He will make a great adversary. But watch yourselves. Both of you. You do not age like mortal man does. Estel, you age slower that man because of you elven blood but you age faster than elves. I will have a meeting with Glorfindel and Haldir about your training."
"How long will I get to spend with the Dúnedain?" Estel asked.
"I guess until you have been declared their Chief. You will have to earn their respect if you are to be leader of them. They will teach you all you want to know about the wild. You can only learn so much from books. Experiencing life is being out there on the land. Keep you eyes and ears open."
Estel thought on this situation a couple of minutes. Was he ready to take on leadership of the Dúnedain? Maybe in time. He looked at Legolas then his Adar. "I will not fail you, Adar."
"Why don't you two go back to your room. We will talk later."
Estel and Legolas both rose from their chairs. Elrond placed a kiss on each forehead. It felt funny to have his Adar be affectionate like that. They both bowed to the Peredhil and left.
//Did you understand a word he said?// Estel thought to Legolas.
//A bit but we will have to be careful when we go out into the wild. I wonder what this Halbarad, Dúnedain of the North, is like. If he is anything like you, I'm going to have trouble on my hands.// With that he gave a chuckle. // I like it when we can talk this way. No one knows we are talking at all.//
//I guess I will have to be careful when I leave Imladris. But I will have one of Middle Earth's greatest warriors beside me fighting.// He stroked Legolas' fingers with his own.
"Why don't we go back to the room and rest. I seem to remember someone needing a spanking!" Estel exclaimed. With that he raced Legolas back to the room.
