Disclaimer: This never happened unless I have psychic powers and can change the past, present and future. Any likeness to real characters is all in your mind, nothing more. This is fiction, made up, never happened, not real....you want that in other languages as well? *LOL* I intend no infringement, this is a piece of amateur fan fiction, and I make no money off it. Only the original idea contained within this work is the property of the author. Please do not copy this story to any website or archive without permission of the author.
Timeline: Set during the filming of LOTR. Or after...whatever. Doesn't really matter.
Warnings: RPS, angst, slightly fluffy, hints of bondage and a D/s relationship.
Beta: Thanks so much to Widdershin for great and fast beta! You are amazing! *blows kisses*
Summary: The one thing he wanted the most he could not take; Sean's love. This was a gift he would have to wait for but Viggo knew it would be worth it.
Author's Notes: Kind of a comparison piece to the SB/OB fic "Say It Like You Mean it". This is the shorter/lighter/fluffier version because I couldn't leave it there. I had to give another option. And yes, I know the 2 fics have 2 different pairings. That was how it fitted in my mind. ;) And yep; I'm a twisted person but a hopelessly romantic twisted person if that helps any *laughs*

"I love you."

Sean would often say those words. When Viggo was holding him close and safe in his embrace after he had lovingly tended to the wounds he had inflicted on Sean's body. When Viggo was stroking Sean's hair so softly as he sat by his chair. When Viggo asked him to say it. Any time when Sean felt Viggo would wish to hear it.

Viggo had never said 'I love you too' and he wouldn't.

Not because he didn't love Sean for he did, but because he knew for now Sean's love was a part of his obedience; his eagerness to please. New to the world Viggo had introduced him to, Sean had been falling and falling fast when Viggo had caught him. Giving up control had been easy for Sean at that time; broken, lost and having just ended yet another marriage. Viggo had been there, always by his side, offering a safe love. Do as I ask and I shall be here. Safe and in a way easier than what he had come from; despite all the rules for the rules was what made it easier.

Viggo was sure Sean believed he loved him when he said the words but he also knew they weren't true.

Not yet.

One day when the newness had faded, when Sean knew what Viggo expected of him, when he was used to sitting by his chair, when he was happy to prepare meals and clean up the house and any other daily choirs because he knew this was his place and it made his lover happy and didn't do it out of fear of losing what he had...when he knew what he could and couldn't do. When his days of drowning his sorrows in alcohol were long since past, when his pain over his past hurts had faded.

When he realized Viggo loved him. When he could see that love in his eyes, in his tender care of his wounds, the way he'll stroke his hair, the way he'll take him into his arms...the way he'll give into his pleas, surprise him with a sweet gesture, a kind word...the way he would give him a poem, a photo or a painting dedicated to him.

The day Sean would not be afraid to flirt a little with the delicate power balance in their relationship. The day he realized he was allowed to tell a joke or ask a favour, respecting their balance yet knowing that he had a valued position in it.

The day he knew he was loved, treasured and protected unto death.

The day that knowledge shinned in Sean's eyes, the day there was no more doubt, fear or pain in those deep green eyes of his lover....

That day Viggo would tenderly kiss Sean's lips and reply to his declaration of love with a heartfelt 'I love you too'.

But until then Viggo would merely smile and nod acceptance and contentment whenever Sean would say 'I love you', secure enough in his life, his abilities, his love, to wait for however long it would take. Knowing, hoping, one day the only thing he couldn't force from Sean and wouldn't accept as a matter of course, as a matter of obedience, would be his by Sean's choice...Sean's final and most important gift and sacrifice to him: his heart and soul as he had already given him his will, his pride, his life and his body.
