Age: Old enough to know better, young enough to say „to hell with it“ and do it anyways.
Gender: Female, but knowing me I’d probably still have fantasies about hot elf boys if I were a male.
Relationship Status: Single and not looking
Home: Seattle area, Washington state, U.S.
Occupation: Veterinary Assistant
Hobbies: Reading, writing, pets (particularly dogs, cats and horses), crafts (leatherwork, beading, making dreamcatchers), photography
Dislikes: People who think they know it all, intolerance/prejudice, greed, people who abuse animals, children, and/or the environment
Seen LOTR/TTT/ROTK in cinema how often?: Gah...between the three of them....20 maybe?
*****
Favorite Story in Archive: Don't know, but it’s sure to be something with Glorfindel, probably either Glorfindel/Elrond or Glorfindel/Haldir
Favorite Character (real / fictional): Heh....thats probably pretty obvious based on the link above that I run a Glorfindel archive, but yep, its him.
Most Hated Character: A tie between Grima, Denethor, and Eowyn *ducks flying objects*
Favorite Movie: The original Star Wars, now called Episode 4, A New Hope. Always wanted to take Luke home with me and comfort him. Someday I REALLY need to write a Luke hurt/comfort story. Maybe a little action with the Princess before they find out they’re related? Ooooooh. *evil smile*
Favorite Book: The Earth’s Children series by Jean Auel. An amazing series of books about a young Cro-magnon woman who was raised by a Neanderthal tribe and sets out to find her place in the world. Someday I may do characterization and descriptions of places as well as Mrs. Auel, but I doubt it.
How did you come to fan-fiction writing? When I first saw Terminator, I was upset that Kyle Reese died at the end. I wanted him and Sarah Connor to live happily ever after. (So I’m a sap, sue me!) So I set out to write a happier ending. I never finished it, but it got me started. My first completed fanfic was one based on the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine universe. It was set on Bajor, and explored the relationship between husband and wife members of the Bajoran Resistance, Khylea (yes, that’s how I got my pen name! LOL) and Mikha. At the time, I didn’t even know what fanfiction was. Then when Xmen came out, I was curious and started looking for more info about the characters and stumbled across some fanfiction. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I had no idea others did the same thing. My first posted fanfiction was one called Trust in the Xmen fandom.
How do you come up with ideas for stories? Various ways. Most of them assault me in the shower or when I’m trying to get to sleep, some at work, others when I’m driving. But I also get ideas by chatting with others, or reading stories. (LOTR or others. Sometimes I get ideas from reading something in a totally different genre and thinking about how interesting it would be to adapt it to LOTR) Sometimes an offhand reference to something an author chooses not to explore in their story gets me thinking and a story comes of it. Also when I watch the LOTR movies for the umpteenth time and notice something I had never stopped to consider, it often plants an idea in my head. Challenges are also helpful. I have written several stories based on challenges. I love challenges..
What do you do to overcome writer's block? Write on something else. I always have several different stories going at the same time, including a dreadful Marysue that will never see the light of day. But it gets me thinking along other lines, and as soon as I do that, a solution to the blocked story usually presents itself.
Have you written in any other fandom? If yes, where can your stories be found? Yes, I have also done Star Wars and Xmen. They can be found at http://khylea.info
Do you use music as a soundtrack for your writing? If yes, what kind? Sometimes but I don’t usually want the distraction. If I do use music, its either instrumentals or something sung in another language so the words don’t distract me.
Is there a certain time of day you usually sit down to write? Heh. I work 12 hour days, so whenever I can find the time!
Have you or would you write stories "on request" for readers? Have before, would again. I love challenges and requests.
Which of your own stories do you like best? Gah...that’s like asking a parent to choose their favorite child. I really couldn’t say. I think my writing improves with each story I write, so it’s hard for me to pick an older story, even though a few years ago, I would have said one of those older ones.
Do you have muses who help you with your stories? If yes, who are they? Yes. My Glorfindel muse is constantly whining about me not writing enough about him. But I guess I shouldn’t complain too much, he makes delicious herbal tea and gives wonderful foot massages. ;-)
What do you think is your trademark in stories and why? It seems I have a talent for characterization. Many people have told me that the characterization I have done for someone is exactly how they saw that character. I have also been told my dialogue is very good. Many people have told me that they could easily picture a certain character saying something I had them say in my story. As far as what I usually seem to write....I’m a sucker for happy endings. I have written character death, but only once.
What part of your writing do you think still needs improvement? Anything can be improved, but I know I need the most work with descriptions of character and location appearance. I can picture something in my mind, just don’t quite know how to say it.
Is there something you would never write? Male pregnancy, parent/child sex, rape for the purpose of sexual satisfaction (rape as the precursor to a hurt/comfort fic I would do), real person fics (apologies to those who like it. I just find it disrespectful to the actors. They live their lives in enough of a fishbowl without having sexually explicit fics written about them, IMHO only of course.)
