Favorite Movie: Moulin’ Rouge, and FOTR
Favorite Book: How can I pick one? Of the LOTR Trilogy, TTT is my favorite.
How did you come to fan-fiction/slash writing? I started writing star-trek Fanfiction about two years ago- having grown up on the original series, and then following it along to Voyager. I started writing during Voyager’s last two seasons, mainly because I had read so much fic out there, but not with the relationships I wanted to see. I’ve always enjoyed writing and I find it is a way to unwind. Only recently have I delved into the realm of middle earth, after having read LOTR and seen both movies, I decided to see if I could venture into that realm with my writing. Fantasy stories have always been my favorite, so I’m more at home with writing about elves and trees and men with swords than I am about starships and planets! I have been a het writer mostly but I love reading slash, and have just recently turned my hand to writing stories involving m/m relationships.
How do you come up with ideas for stories? From dreams, sometimes, that I have, or just from idle thoughts as I drive to and from work, listening to music. Lyrics to songs, sometimes, will send me off on a tangent of writing, and sometimes a really good drawing or photo of a character will inspire me to write as well.
What do you do to overcome writer's block? I step away from whatever it is that I’m writing that I’m blocked on, and let my muse run rampant, usually writing something completely silly or fluffy or totally without plot, without worrying where it's going, until I get inspired to go back to the story I’ve been working on.
Have you written in any other fandom? Star
Trek Voyager and I’m also part of a project
called Star Trek Delta Fleet, which takes place about 25 years after Voyager
returned to Earth.
If yes, where can your stories be found? http://www.angelfire.com/trek/khylaren
and

Do you use music as a soundtrack for your writing? Yes, I do!
If yes, what kind? I made a compilation tape of several artists I enjoy – Enya, Loreena McKennitt, and others, with emphasis on Celtic styles. None of the songs are in English – if they have words at all – they are all in gaelic. I call it my Elf music. I also listen to the soundtrack to FOTR.
Is there a certain time of day you usually sit down to write? Evenings mostly, because I work during the day, and the kiddos go to bed.
Have you or would you write stories "on request" for readers? Depending on the request, I suppose. I’ve never gotten one, though!
Which of your own stories do you like best? Of my Trek writings, I have to say “Forgotten” and “Fully Functional” are two of my favorites. LOTR writings, well, I haven’t written enough yet to have a favorite.
What do you think, why the mostly female writers in slash make up stories about male/male relationships? I think that women enjoy stories with strong male characters eliciting what are typically feminine characteristics of being emotional towards each other– you don’t typically see strong female characters much, so it is natural that men would be the choice. That, and its really friggin’ erotic!
Do you have muses who help you with your stories? By muses, if you mean by who am I inspired to write? Well, the characters of Tolkien have recently spoken the loudest to me, begging to be set free on further adventures, romance, friendship and the like. Other authors that I have read inspire me to stretch my literary muscles as well.
What do you think is your trademark in stories and why? Misspelling the elvish language – no, I’m kidding. Um, hadn’t really thought about it, really. I suppose I do write with a certain style and voice that is mine, but what it is exactly, I couldn’t really say. Maybe someone will tell me <g>.
What part of your writing do you think still needs improvement? There is always room for improvement, and I think my biggest weakness is character description – I mean, describing what the character looks like. For some reason, I tend to avoid writing paragraphs of what a character is wearing, what their hair looks like, their eyes, etc. I have a fear of Mary-Sueism, I guess.
Is there something you would never write? I
probably would never write incest fic and I wouldn’t write a parent/child
sexual relationship either. I know its out there, and I have read some of
it that is really good, but its not really something I would find myself interested
in writing. I’d probably avoid really harsh BDSM/rape fics as well,
although there is nothing wrong with a bit of slap and tickle now and then,
so long as, eventually, both parties are willing!
